I will try to pull together the best of the web and some of my own ideas, crafts and artwork especially for kids. I decided that It is my mission to use this blog as a resource for adoptive parents as well as crafty folks. I suspect there are a lot of adoptive parents like myself in a similar situation. You can imagine how frustrated and disappointed I was when I could only find some really bad clip art and a few paragraphs about the Korean New Year. I am happy that we will be learning much of it together. As they grow up, I plan on exposing them to the beautiful and unique Korean culture and traditions. I don't want my daughters to make the same mistake! My youngest daughter is also a Korean adoptee and my eldest daughter (biological) is part Korean and Scottish. I grew up thinking anything Chinese was interchangeable with Korean. I am a Korean adoptee and have very little knowledge of many Korean traditions and customs. There is a tremendous amount of fun ideas and activities for kids to celebrate the Chinese New Year. There is very little offered on the web currently in terms of children's activities and crafts for the Korean New Year. Which books about Korean New Year did your kids like? Illustrations are detailed and realistic! 떡국의마음 is another book that was just recommended to me. But I hope that your family can enjoy it! As this book is available only in Korean, we won’t be getting this book since we don’t have anyone to read this language to our kids currently. The book appears to have realistic illustrations, which is really important for representation. So thankful that a lovely mom, Rebecca, recommended this bilingual book! According to the publisher’s description, a young boy named 요한은 learns about Lunar New Year blessings and making a noble wish for the new year. The girl dresses herself with ease, while the boy playfully struggles and proud when he figures it out. Good news: the Korean version of the “boy book” has been narrated on YouTube! In the videos of each book, you’ll see the differences between the little brother and big sister’s clothing, their developmental level, and personalities. Unfortunately, the English version of the book is out-of-print, but keep an eye out for used copies on Ebay and Thrift Books. One version of the book focuses on traditional girl’s clothing while the other version features boy’s attire. The book was originally published in Korean and later translated to English.
